The Stars are Singing

A voice had begun to sing…… Sometimes he almost thought it was coming out of the earth beneath them. Its lower notes were deep enough to be the voice of the earth itself …..it was beyond comparison the most beautiful noise he had ever heard……it seemed to him that the stars were singing.

The voice of Aslan singing Narnia into being – from C.S.Lewis’s ‘The Magician’s Nephew.

The Wonder of a Winter Sky

To look up at the sky on a clear night is always an uplifting experience. We have a view into other worlds of vastness, and breathtaking splendour. All other worldly thoughts disappear for the moment in the silent beauty and order of the Universe of stars and planets. It is a refreshing and healing experience.

Who created all these?
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens.
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls then each by name.

Isaiah 40:26-7

And these are but the outer fringe of his works;
how faint the whisper we hear of him!
Who then can understand the thunder of his power?

Job 26:14

Earth the Favoured Planet

In a vast Universe our own tiny planet is very special.

Earth’s Song was there at Creation when ‘the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy ‘ (Job 38:7)

Again the stars ‘sang’ at the birth of Christ (Luke 2:13-14). The glory of he Lord shone about them and angels appeared to the shepherds singing their song of joy, as the music of heaven spilled over onto Earth.

There were signs in the heavens, the activity of angels, dreams, visions, and prophetic songs inspired by the Holy Spirit. Clearly something very special was about to happen on tiny planet Earth.

The three eastern star-gazers saw the star and went to Bethlehem. No doubt it was a difficult journey –‘a cold coming they had of it’ as T.S. Elliot’s poem  ‘The Journey of the Magi‘ says. But they persisted and found the treasure – the child who had come to be the Morning Star, the Light of the world

The Stars that Sing

At Christmas the music of the stars is spilling over on to Earth. Our local village church bells will soon be ringing for Christmas. Inside, the church will be full of the sound of Christmas carols. No wonder Christmas is so full of singing.

Malcolm Guite pays tribute to C.S.Lewis’s inimitable Narnia stories including the ever popular The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ :

Your wardrobe-mind has furnished us with worlds
Through which to travel, whence we learn to see
Along the beam, and hear at last the heralds,
Sounding their summons, through the stars that sing,
Whose call at sunrise brings us to our King.’

Thank you for visiting.

The sun will soon be rising. The return of Christ, ‘The Morning Star‘ (Revelation 22: 16) is near.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year of faith, peace and hope.

  1. Thank you for the window you give out on God’s most beautiful creation miracle. Adam would surely concur! Happy Christmas and a blessed new year to you. Love. Jim and Jennie

    1. Jim and Jennie it’s great to hear from you both. We hope all is well with you. We continue enjoying life in the village here. Sadly though, because of persistent cloudy nights we are missing seeing the winter night stars. Have a good Christmas and new year. The ‘Morning Star’ is coming!
