Ever-fresh water wells up in a perennial spring somewhere up the hill. Its pure, clean, refreshing water feeds into this stream and on into a river. Wherever it goes there is fresh growth, healing, refreshment and life.
I come here often to ‘drink’ from its ‘water of life’ especially in ‘dry’ seasons….Do join me if you will.
Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”
John’s Gospel chapter 4: 13-14 ‘The Message’ Bible
The woman of Samaria whom Jesus met at the well came for water, bringing far more than her empty pot. She had also brought with her a deep dissatisfaction with life. She came looking for water, but returned with the ‘water’ of eternal life welling up in her heart and in the hearts of many of her fellow villagers.
Once tasted, the Water of Life lasts for ever. That’s true, yet in one sense I do need to keep coming back to drink of Christ afresh. I need daily supplies of grace from this ever-flowing Wellspring.
Streams of Blessedness
Thou, Lord, alone, art all Thy children need,
And there is none beside;
From Thee the streams of blessedness proceed,
In Thee the bless’d abide.
Fountain of life, and all-abounding grace,
Our source, our center, and our dwelling-place.
From an old poem by Jeanne Marie de-la Motte-Guyon
